What’s New for the 2019 Porsche 911 Coupe?
The revered Porsche 911, the world’s gold standard in sports cars, is available in a dizzying array of three body styles and eight distinct models, further divided into myriad trim levels, yet all share over 50 years of continual improvement and refinement. The big changes for 2019 center around the 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT2 RS.
2019 911 GT3 RS
The GT3 RS is bigger and badder than ever, with a new, 74.0-inch width. The 4.0-liter, naturally-aspirated engine has been significantly reworked with new rings and pistons, valve-clearance compensation, a stiffer crankshaft with bigger main bearings, beefed-up connecting-rod bearing and more. The result is an additional 20 horsepower for a total of 520. Look for other improvements such as titanium tailpipes and a 2.9-second zero-to-60 mph time. Two new tire brands are available — Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 — sized 265/35ZR-20 up front and 325/30ZR-21 at the rear. The suspension ball joints are now metallic, and the springs have been stiffened fore and aft. Other changes include a larger front spoiler, new rear underbody diffuser, quicker steering, huge brakes with revised cooling ducts, and reconfigured louvers on the fender-top vents.
2019 911 GT2 RS
The GT2 RS is basically the same car as the GT3 RS except for one difference, a monster 700-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six engine that takes the GT2 RS from zero to 60 in 2.7 seconds. It is matched to the same seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission found in the GT3 RS. If you like spending quality time at the track, the GT2 RS should fit the bill nicely.
